Porto Santo Stefano ......

Introduction:
My town(the one in the picture, of course) is called Porto S. Stefano, and it is a small town in an area called Argentario that is a promontory with a wonderful sea and of course lots of nice beaches; it is located in the south part of Touscany, the region of Italy including also Florence and Pisa (the city where I study).

Argentario

Where does the name Argentario come from? Well, there are a couple of stories about the origyns (or how ever this word is spelled!! .. orygins?) of this name ... mmm .... at the moment I remember only two of them, I wonder if there are others ...

Story n.1: Once upon a time, a long ago, when the Romans were very powerful, there was a little promontory (a kind of peninsula) where many rich romans used to go on holiday. Most of those rich romans where a kind of bank-owners and where called (in latin) "Argentari", so people began to call that promontory "Argentario" because of the presence of the Argentari.

Story n.2: Ancient stories of sailormen state that when boats were sailing along the promontory the land seemed to be made of silver because of the color of its Olive Trees, and yes you guessed, Argento is the italian word for Silver, so the promontory was named "Argentario". Actually a leaf of an olive tree is dark green on the side facing the sun and is silver colored on the opposite side, so, when the wind moves the leaves, the tree does really look silver colored.
